Although change itself is not necessarily negative, let’s give it a try at a macro level, to attempt to interpret the possible changes that most probably will take place in our beloved earth.
Ceteris Paribus, the changes will take place in the following categories:
- Global Economy
- Society
- Tastes & Preferences
- Government & Politics
- Science
- Technology
GLOBAL ECONOMY
Mass consumption will be resilient or less accepted, as a response to instinctively avoid unknown contagious diseases. Consumerism will curve and consumers will willfully accept restraints in mass consumption culture, as a pecuniary sacrifice as protection from natural disasters as well as pandemic-like diseases.
As a result, local distribution channels should strengthen as a more reliable and effective way to reach out the more educated consumer.
Unfortunately, these disasters as COVID-19 will widened the inequality gap, as a vast majority of the plain individual either lacks of a health safety net, or doesn’t have enough financial cushion to take the hit and survive.
SOCIETY
Humanity when under attack from unknown forces, diseases or natural disasters (due to climate change) will turn to religious worship, now however, more personal: a comfortable presence with absence. Less personal contact, less individualism. Furthermore, nationalism will be changed by a new patriotism.
TASTES & PREFERENCES
Life style must certainly change. We will experience less group dining, but perhaps more self cooking, more delivery. Overall, there is a necessity for diversion or less habit oriented. As studied by Thomas Kuhn, we should experience a paradigm shift.
GOVERNMENT & POLITICS
The rise of government services will revive the trust in institutions. There will be a growing sentiment of a renewed patriotism and a sheer honor to work in the government. The common rules that we have lived by, will no longer be sustainable, as there will be a novel political uprising. Furthermore, debates and law making will be finally virtual and ubiquitous as will be voting.
SCIENCE
Many plain citizens of the world are navigating this pandemic without a health safety net. As science will reign again, government becomes a key and most important pharma. we should expect telemedicine uprising and the creation of a stronger family-care-centric society.
TECHNOLOGY
The rise of virtual reality will be auspicious of a healthier digital lifestyle. Ubiquitous online, digital, virtual less regulated tools will be a boom. A presence with absence, virtual society will rise.
In summary, what will change? Everything, from the production systems, Commercialization channels, Sales and consumer demand, cost of money, type of money and most important, the value of time.
